May 27, 2008 - SigmaTEK, developer of SigmaNEST, the leading automatic nesting and NC programming software, announces the addition of its knife cutter solution to its expansive SigmaNEST product line. The SigmaKNIFE module, combined with knife cutter machine technology, allows for high-efficiency nesting, significant control over standard knife cutting features, and high part quality. SigmaKNIFE also runs with high-end, ultra-sonic knife cutters.

Companies in the textile, aerospace, and automotive industries can increase material utilization with SigmaKNIFE’s nesting engine and cut single or multi-plies of materials. The module also allows for the grouping of work orders to obtain the best nest possible through the continuous nesting feature. SigmaKNIFE compensates for machine limitations with lift angle capabilities for accurate produc¬tion of sharp corners. Users can control the knife force pressure to ensure proper cuts based on materials and ensure no damage to a part by setting nesting overlap values for individual blades.

SigmaKNIFE offers users the ability to set multi-passes and can automatically (or manually) calculate depth for multi-passes, thus reducing blade overload and breakage. Users can also control cut sequences and set compensation values for each blade to ensure proper material penetration, which produces cleaner cuts.
